International volleyball players
Panos Heracleous and Marios Kontos were the stars of the "Grammar
School Open", the first Pancyprian Volleyball Championship
2003, this weekend. On their first appearance together as "Schneider",
the par showed great determination and confidence throughout,
thus ascertaining their supremacy over the rivals. Last years
champions, Marios Chrysostomou and Harris Savvides ("Exhaust
Kokos") were beaten by "Schneider" in the final
by 2 sets to nil (21-19; 21-15). There were 15 teams participating
in this tournament.
Heracleous' and Kontos' persistence
helped them take the first set on the crucial last points 19-21.
They moved on to confidently assert themselves in set 2 (21-15),
thus winning the honorable 300 pound trophy. The runners-up (Marios
Chrysostomou; Harris Savvides) left with a 200 pound prize. In
total the "Grammar school Open" gave out 1000 pounds
in prize money.
